own chicago

It's been a while since I have graced y'all with a new blog post. School, work, and running have owned my life recently. The one major thing I didn't get to update y'all on is that my big brother finished his second marathon!

The first weekend in October, my roommates and I [who are my parents if you're new around here] ventured up to my favorite city to watch him run an abnormal amount of miles. It was a short 32 hour trip for me because I had a midterm nice and early Monday morning waiting for me.

The first thing we did as good spectators was go to the expo and watch my mom force Andrew to take pictures, pretty entertaining I do have to say!

Found his name among the thousands!

Bright and early Sunday morning came the actual running part for Andrew. We saw him striding like a champ at mile three.

Then like the supportive family we are, we found our favorite breakfast place, Yolk, which happened to be along the marathon route. I finished three massive blueberry pancakes just in time for us to go outside and see him at mile 11.

Running 8 miles or eating three pancakes? I think I'm the real winner in this situation

We also saw him at mile 17 in Chinatown and mile 25 and let me tell you,  he was flying!

He finished in 4 hours and 18 minutes [I'm pretty sure that's how long it's going to take me to run my half marathon... totally kidding, but not at all]!

Speaking of my half marathon, things are going better than expected! Two weeks ago I had to take the week off because of something in my foot that was causing me a lot of pain. Walking more than a few feet wasn't really an option for me, so running wasn't even possible.

Personally, I think that was God tapping me on my shoulder to remind me to take it easy and refocus my priorities!

After that minor setback, I feel pretty confident [knock on wood]. On Saturday, I got up to ten miles and I only have two more long runs left! Next week I'm going to taper to give myself some rest. I'm really excited and I'm just ready for the day to be here already!

On an unrelated note, who watched SNL this weekend? I fell in love with Bruno Mars, he is so darn talented and quite the spiffy dresser. This song is a toe tapper my friends!!
